Your tour begins in the heart of downtown Coronado, where the main street is lined with cafes, shops, and restaurants – predominantly locally owned, and reflecting the unique character of this community.
As we make our way along the main street and into the side streets, we will come across some of Coronado’s most interesting architectural gems – buildings that were at the cutting edge of technology when they were built over a century ago.
A visit to the Coronado Public Library (subject to availability) reveals something unexpected – not your average neighborhood library, its collection of art and artifacts connects directly to the aviators, artists, and innovators whose stories run throughout this tour.
From there we will step off the main street and into a quieter side street where four historic churches are tucked between family homes – a reminder that beneath Coronado’s glamorous reputation is a real neighborhood where people have lived, worshipped, and raised families for generations.
By now you will have earned a break, so we will stop for gelato at a local favorite before exploring a bit more of downtown.
The Coronado Historical Museum (subject to availability) is next – with rotating exhibits that highlight a different facet of Coronado’s history each time, no two visits are quite the same.
Then on to Star Park, a small but storied spot, before we join Ocean Boulevard, where the scale of things shifts considerably. The homes lining this stretch are as impressive as the view – and some of the people who built and lived in them are names you will already recognize by this point in the tour.
Our last stop is the Hotel del Coronado – over 130 years old and still one of the most iconic buildings in the country, having welcomed presidents, celebrities, and dignitaries through its doors. You will hear the stories behind the hotel and the men who shaped it. From here you are welcome to explore on your own – grab a cocktail, watch the sunset – or accompany the guide back to the meeting location. Either way, your guide will leave you with their favorite recommendations for eating, drinking, and exploring everything Coronado still has to offer.
